About The Project
The Bottle Tree Energy Park is located on approximately 8,000 hectares of agricultural land, 18km northeast of Roma, Queensland. The development will consist of up to 58 turbines with an installed capacity of approximately 420MW. This will provide power for around 250,000 Queensland homes annually and reduce yearly carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1,072,000 tonnes.
In 2021, WestWind Energy began monitoring the wind resource and are currently undertaking project feasilibility studies. WestWind Energy anticipates that it will lodge environmental and planning approvals in 2023.
Community Benefits
Once operational, money will be allocated for annual distribution into the local community to share the financial benefits of the project. The Community Benefit Schemes will be developed through community consultation to ensure the community values and views are properly considered. These may include scholarships, a community benefit fund, community investment program, electricity offset scheme, neighbour benefits and more.
Host Landholder Benefits
The wind farm will provide an annual income for all host landholders. This economic boost to farmers enables them to secure supplementary income annually, for decades, through lease arrangements with the wind farm. This income provides a stable addition to farming income and helps to counteract swings of commodity prices and ‘drought proof’ farms. This sustains the farming practice and provides protection to the farming land for years to come. It also allows farmers to farm more sustainably by removing the pressure to maximise income from the land.
The roads constructed for turbine access give landholders all weather access across their property which improves stock management practices and bushfire access.
