Residents of Warracknabeal and surrounds can hear more about a potential wind farm in the region, as renewable energy developer WestWind Energy have opened an office in recent months. Located at Warracknabeal Neighbourhood House, 2 Cox Street Warracknabeal Vic 3993. Open Tuesday’s and Thursday’s 9:00am – 4:00pm or by appointment.
The Warracknabeal Energy Park is a proposed wind farm of 200 – 220 turbines, spread across two sites to the north and south of Warracknabeal respectively. The wind farm would have the capacity to power over 900,000 homes, the equivalent of every home in regional Victoria, and save more than 5.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
WestWind Energy have been investigating the viability of a wind farm in the Yarriambiack Shire for the past five years, specifically around the wider Warracknabeal, Lah, Brim and Wallup area. A strong wind resource, coupled with a large group of supportive host landholders, have contributed to the appeal of the development.
“Over recent years we have engaged with local farmers who have expressed an interest in being part of a new wind farm development,” said WestWind Energy Chief Operating Officer Marla Brauer.
“The feedback we’ve received from locals in Warracknabeal and surrounds has been quite positive,” said Ms Brauer.
“I think the community has seen the benefits and the potential of wind development from the Murra Warra Wind Farm and can see this translating to our project. We look forward to working closely with the local community as we commence development of this exciting project.”
The project team have opened up the new office at Warracknabeal Neighbourhood House – 2 Cox Street, Warracknabeal Vic 3993, open Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, 9:00am – 4:00pm. Locals are invited to pop-in and meet the team at any point during these times or by appointment.
WestWind Energy is the largest wind farm developer in Victoria with over 2 gigawatts of approved wind energy across four projects in the Moorabool and Golden Plains Shires, and a further 3-gigawatt pipeline of future projects in development.
