Temporary office opens at Neighbourhood House

WestWind Energy is inviting community members to learn more about the Wilkur Energy Park at its temporary office at the Birchip Neighbourhood House.

Chief Development Officer Marla Brauer said opening an office in the town is an important way for the organisation to engage in meaningful conversations about the project.

“With two decades of experience in the Australian wind industry, we understand just how important it is to be transparent in communities where we’re working. Setting up this temporary office shows the community we’re committed to being part of the region and that we want to hear and address any concerns,” she said.

Open every Thursday from 8 August to 19 September, the office will be staffed by WestWind’s experienced team, who will be able to answer questions about the project and its potential.

“We’re really excited about the potential of the Wilkur Energy Park. Once complete, it will power around half a million Victorian homes each year, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 2.1 million tonnes. That’s a huge win for the environment.

“Equally, the local community is already benefitting from the project through our sponsorship fund. For example, we recently helped purchase a new printer/copier for the Birchip Neighbourhood House,” Ms Brauer said.

Once operational, a community fund will be established for Wilkur Energy Park to share the financial benefits of the project. A minimum of $194,000 a year will be provided for a range of benefit schemes including community-based initiatives, projects and events in the region.
