Cameron Downs Energy Park announced for Queensland

29 May 2024

Proposed wind farm could supply enough green energy to power around a million Queensland homes

WestWind Energy, a leading renewable energy company, is delighted to announce the proposed development

of a wind farm in Flinders Shire, Queensland. The Cameron Downs Energy Park will feature up to 200 wind turbines and generate enough energy to power around one million homes across the state.

Cameron Downs Energy Park will play a pivotal role in addressing the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change. By harnessing the power of wind, this renewable energy facility is projected to save more than 4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.

An experienced developer, WestWind Energy has been actively working in the Australian renewable energy market since 2004, and is committed to engaging and collaborating with the local community throughout the development process.

WestWind will be visiting the area in late May and will have a stand at the Hughenden Show on Friday 31 May and Saturday 1 June to meet with and answer questions from the community.

Marla Brauer, WestWind’s Chief Development Officer said “We’re excited to be developing this project in the Flinders Shire. There is great potential to create a significant renewable energy project for Queensland here.”

“We invite local community members to drop by our stand at the Show, meet the team, and learn more

about the project, its environmental benefits, and the positive contribution it can make to the local community. We know the importance of events like these for the region and are proud to also be sponsoring the Show.”

Sharing the financial benefits of projects with the local community is a priority for WestWind. When the project is operational, community benefits schemes will be established for Cameron Downs Energy Park funded by a contribution of $2,000 per constructed turbine each year.

The exact nature of the community benefit schemes will be decided in consultation with local community members to ensure long-lasting benefits for the region. Examples include funding directed toward health and social welfare, safety, environment, education and youth, sport and recreation, culture and the arts, and economic development.
