Community remembers lost miners with a weekend of events and activities
The Festival of the Miners Ghost is an annual event in Cobar where the local community participates in a range of activities as they remember the miners they have lost.
The event began with a service at the Cobar Mining Heritage Park on Friday night. A Night to Remember our Lost Miners, with a Guard of Honour, wreath laying and guest speakers before food and entertainment carried into the night.
Across the whole weekend there were various events for the whole family, including cemetery tours, colour run, night markets and fireworks.
We held a colouring competition for the kids with some great prizes from local Annie’s arts and crafts. We also held a raffle with prizes from Cobar’s Gumnut Gifts & Homewares.
Festival of the Miners Ghost was such a great experience over the weekend for project team members Tom and Josh. They enjoyed some great conversations with community members as well as the great atmosphere and perfect weather!
