At Kerang Neighbourhood House’s Soup Kitchen, more than 120 meals are cooked each month to be donated to community members needing support.
Manager Claire shared her thoughts about the soup kitchen:
‘Every Thursday, our team and other wonderful volunteers come together to prepare a warm, hearty meal for our community members.
The team works tirelessly, starting the night before to prepare the ingredients and then placing the soup into overnight slow cookers. This process ensures that by the time our doors open, the soup is ready to offer warmth and nourishment to everyone who stops by.
The soup kitchen provides more than just a hot meal; it offers a sense of community and support, especially during these colder months. Our initiative benefits all community members, particularly those who may be struggling or feeling isolated. The weekly soup kitchen and our monthly cook-ups are critical in fostering a sense of belonging and care among the residents.
We have seen first-hand how a simple act of kindness, such as a hot meal, can bring smiles and warmth to those in need.’
WestWind’s Alastair and Seb are happy to volunteer in the kitchen and support this important local initiative in Kerang.
