Normanville Energy Park announces local Community Liaison
13 September 2024
WestWind Energy is strengthening its grassroots connections in northern Victoria, by appointing local resident Alastair Mitton to the role of Community Liaison. He’ll be based on the ground locally in Kerang, to support the community with answering questions and providing project updates about the Normanville Energy Park.
Marla Brauer, Chief Development Officer for WestWind said, ‘We are delighted to welcome Alastair to the team. His extensive experience working in stakeholder engagement and government roles made him the ideal candidate.’
With a diverse background in roles such as human resources, regional employment, emergency and youth services, Alastair said he was excited to take on the role with WestWind.
‘WestWind is an exceptional organisation that I felt like I could contribute to and would be proud to work with.
I want to be part of the solution for the sake of my kids, grandkids and the generations that follow. I love working with people, listening to what they have to say and working with stakeholders in my local community.’
Normanville Energy Park will play a pivotal role in addressing the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change. By harnessing the power of wind, the clean energy generated by this project is expected to power more than 90,000 Victorian homes with clean, low-cost electricity and save 300,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. To support the development of the energy park, WestWind welcomes suggestions and ideas from the community. Locals are encouraged to book an appointment to meet Alastair and discuss the development of Normanville Energy Park and how to make the most of the $50,000 per annum community benefit fund when the project is operational. ‘The community, especially in rural Australia is the backbone of society. It’s so important to have a strong and informed community during major infrastructure projects like these,’ he said.
WestWind is also committed to providing meaningful benefits back to the community while the project is in development. This is being demonstrated through Normanville Energy Park’s sponsorship program, which includes sponsoring the Kerang and Wandella Football Netball Clubs and other community groups and initaitives.
