Do wind turbines cause electromagnetic interference?

Yes, wind turbines can cause electromagnetic interference (EMI), but the effects are generally minimal and manageable.

Wind turbines have the potential to interfere with electromagnetic signals like television, radio, radar, and communication systems due to the rotating blades and large metal structures.

However, mitigation strategies are implemented to reduce or eliminate such interference.

Throughout the wind farm planning process, we undertake detailed studies into any potential electromagnetic interference (EMI).

We use this data to adapt turbine layout and materials to minimise any impacts to satellite, radio and television services.
