How is decommissioning funded?

Decommissioning is the wind farm owner’s responsibility. This is a requirement of permits for wind farm development.
WestWind also includes conditions in our commercial lease agreements with host landholders so it’s clear from the beginning of the project how a decommissioning fund will be established to provide landholders with the assurance that the wind farm has the funds to decommission the project.
Additionally, the wind farm has to pay lease fees to host landholders until all infrastructure is removed.
The wind farm project owner will set aside money prior to the end of the operational stage of the project to cover the cost of decommissioning. This gives the landholder and local community assurance that the project owner is financially viable to cover the cost for decommissioning.
