Will hosting a wind farm increase my property rates?

Local government will take into account a number of factors when assessing land values for the purposes of establishing rates. How wind farm infrastructure is taken into account may vary between different local government areas.

The wind farm owner will pay additional council rates or land taxes related to the project directly to the relevant council. How this is calculated will differ by state.

WestWind includes provisions in its leases that the project will reimburse the landholder (or pay the council directly) for increases in rates that are directly related to the landholder hosting the wind farm. This provides extra protection to landholders.
