What options are there when a wind farm is coming to end of operations?

At the end of a wind farm’s lifespan, a project will either be repowered or decommissioned.  Decommissioning involves removing the wind turbines and restoring the site to its original condition or to a state agreed upon with landowners and regulatory bodies.

The decision to repower requires the landholder’s consent and planning consents. This decision will depend on whether repowering is commercially viable.
