Is diesel used to power wind turbines?

In modern, large-scale wind energy facilities, wind turbines do not require diesel fuel for start up, for backup power, or as a lubricant.

Turbines do not have diesel generators or diesel storage.

There is also a common misconception that diesel is used as a lubricant in wind turbines. This is not correct as diesel is not suitable for use as a lubricant.

The main use for diesel at operating wind energy facilities would be to fuel vehicles used by maintenance crews on site.
